The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.

— LR Knost

There are no mistakes in this vast mystery of life. Each ant, every shrub, the noble redwoods and the moon in all her faces— everything is guiding us towards blooming. There are the wounds of living, and there is the innate alchemy of transmuting pain into medicine for ourselves, for our families, and for the world.

Today it is raining as I gaze out the window. The kittens are relentlessly hunting, as is their instinct. The sky is a murky grey, the clouds are heavy on my head. The landscape is nearly unrecognizable from yesterday when the sun warmed my hands. These storms, the daily fluctuations in temperature, wind, humidity, terrain— these echo the ever-changing landscape inside. To align myself with nature is the greatest truth I know.

Together, let’s befriend the wilderness inside you— the lover you are born with, as Mestiza Latina elder Clarissa Pinkola Estes says. The daily waves that wash ashore with work and home, with family, friends, partners, as we seek the connection that is our mammalian nature. The foundational earthquakes that come with ancestral trauma, colonization, racism, patriarchy, immigration, and the violence and isolation of Western culture. Let us learn to be in relationship with the weather, the dark creatures, the incredible treasures hidden inside. All of it can be known. All of it can be held. This I know. It is an adventure, this body, this life, this knowing. Are you in?

I am honored by the opportunity to meet with others, to come together at this particular point in each of our journeys, to strengthen one another. Service is a way to pay tribute to the teachings I have received, to celebrate the steady heartbeat of community. In particular, my being is forever changed by the people, culture, and land of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, first settled by the Pueblo peoples, the Ute, and the Jicarilla Apache, and known by the Navajo/Diné; the holy hill Arunachala in Tiruvannamalai; the Divine Buddha Temple in Taiwan, Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and many others.
